"Not good enough". Those were the words Ethan Ampadu used to sum up Leeds United's draw with Hull City.

It appeared a foregone conclusion the Whites would go on to record a third consecutive win on the road after second half goals from Ao Tanaka, Daniel James and Joel Piroe put them 3-1 up at the MKM Stadium. But the hosts pulled one back with nine minutes remaining after a goalkeeping howler from Illan Meslier. Abu Kamara then struck his second of the contest to earn the Tigers a point.

Despite their Yorkshire derby frustration, Ampadu remain one point clear at the top of the Championship. Burnley, Sheffield United and Sunderland remain hot on their heels in the race for automatic promotion.

And Ampadu, who lined up at centre-back alongside Joe Rodon, is acutely aware United must improve if they are to go up. Taking to his Instagram story, Ampadu wrote: “Disappointed, we know it wasn’t good enough from us this weekend. Thank you as always for the support.”

United will get an opportunity to put things right when they return to action on Saturday evening. They welcome Harrogate Town to Elland Road in the FA Cup third round, kick-off 5:45pm.

Manager Daniel Farke is likely to field a much-changed starting XI. Karl Darlow, Sam Byram, Isaac Schmidt, Josuha Guilavogui, Wilfried Gnonto, Largie Ramazani and Joe Gelhardt are all pushing for recalls. Skipper Ampadu could be among the first team players rested, with an FA Cup run not high on United's priority list.
