Leeds United are in a good position for promotion, with Daniel Farke's side leading the table by 2 points and the club in a 'strong' spot with regards to financial regulations - but some fans in the Leeds Live comments section say that the club should turn good bets into sure bets as the end of the transfer window looms.

Leeds have managed their finances well since relegation, according to our Business of Football writer Dave Powell. Amongst other things, Powell said: "Big fees received for Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray, Luis Sinisterra, Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville will be significant in positively impacting the balance sheet and allowing the club to reduce the wage bill and aid revenue during a season when the value of parachute payments will drop."

This means that the club will be in a positive place when it comes to planning out a season of spending in preparation for the Premier League, should the Whites achieve promotion this season. Daniel Farke has also spoken about his preference of a small squad which helps to reduce spending, saying that he doesn't want to risk the "unity" and "spirit" of the group.

However, some fans would prefer some more depth before the January transfer window closes. Commenter YorksYogi says: "Do not bank on us going up this season. We need to add some depth in this window, there is a bit of truth in Farke's statement that you do not get good players in January, to which I would add, 'particularly when you wait until the end of the window and only get a choice of the dregs!' Another mismanaged window increases the odds of us not making the cut this season."

Reader BMG replied that late in the window is where opportunity lies for Leeds: "It's a fair point but I do think the transfer windows - especially the January one - are more complicated than meets the eye. One reason that a team like us waits until the end of the window is basically because we have to. We are lower down the food chain and we basically need to wait until the big teams and players have done their deals, for the most part.

"We need to get players that improve us, so are looking at out of favour Premier League players such as Buendia or Enciso. But from the player's side, they aren't getting minutes thus they want a move, but they want to stay in the Premier League or at least a top league. So we have to wait until those players have either got their move (e.g. to Leverkusen), or if they don't then we are next in line. If they fail to get a move, we can get them. But we are most definitely a back up option for most good players."

LeeinVan has less faith: "Like last season, Leeds are waiting to the eleventh hour to pop in a few panic buys that don't help the team. Then of course it's the play-offs, which we all know how well Leeds have done in those situations.

"We keep hearing everyone is working really hard to find players, three weeks and not even a hint of a player signing, maybe we don't have the right people looking."

Backspace69 says that back up can come from unexpected places: "Having Ampadu and Gurev return is like signing both players. Leeds survived without them. The only issue would be a good number 10 and a back up in the back four. Leeds are still in first place."
