Leeds United given greenlight by Nottingham Forest coach to secure transfer target
Nottingham Forest coach Andy Reid has suggested Andrew Omobamidele will be leaving the City Ground this January amid talk of a potential transfer to Leeds United or their promotion rivals Sheffield United. Both the Whites and the Blades have been firmly linked with the 22-year-old centre back this month after his failure to win a regular place in the high-flying Forest team this season.
Omobamidele is a familiar face to United boss Daniel Farke, having played under the German at Norwich City. Farke handed Omobamidele his first Premier League start back in 2021, with the Republic of Ireland international securing a £10million move to the City Ground in 2023.
The defender has only played 11 times across all competitions this season and finds himself behind the likes of Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo and Morato in the Forest team. With a potential long-term injury to Pascal Struijk to consider, Leeds may need to move swiftly to bring in a new centre-back.

It now appears Omobamidele will definitely be on the move this month and available, with Reid suggesting a move needs to happen.
Speaking to Off The Ball, Reid said; “It’s been a tough period for him, opportunities have been limited. He needs to go play football – I’d imagine he will find something that lets him get on the football pitch.
“He’s somebody that I worked with at the Ireland under 18s, he’s a great lad and I think he’ll have a really good career. But he needs to play some football.”
Leeds continue to play it cool in the January transfer window and are holding to the message they expect a quiet month, but should Struijk's injury prove worse than feared when he goes for a new scan next week, the chances of a movement in the window will increase significantly.
