Daniel Farke spoke glowingly of his players following Leeds United ’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Manor Solomon now has three goal contributions in as many matches following his opening goal, the other two being assists against Hull City and Harrogate Town. Meanwhile, Largie Ramazani netted in a second consecutive match, this time from the substitutes bench.

A number of players had encouraging performances, not least that of Ao Tanaka, whose deft backheel finish wrapped up the points. Leeds United go back to the top of the Championship with the win and there are several talking points to look at.

Buendia stance

Farke was reluctant to comment when asked about Emiliano Buendia amid the news this week that Unai Emery has left the door open for a loan exit for him this month.

Buendia played 121 matches under Farke at Norwich City and was a key player in his set-up at the Canaries. While he refused to comment on Buendia’s future, he expressed his admiration for the Argentine.

“I never comment on players under contract for other teams because I wouldn’t expect any other manager to make comments about my players," he said. "We only speak about business once business is done.

“I have read the comments because I am interested in football and the Premier League. Obviously I have worked with Buendia, he was one of my best players at Norwich. I really rate him, but I don’t comment on a player who right now is playing at a different side.”

Midfield excellence

Farke has spoken several times about the value he places in Ethan Ampadu in midfield but the captain was played at centre-half again amid the absence of Pascal Struijk. Of course, this is not the first time he has partnered with Joe Rodon and the pair did well.

What was encouraging was how well Tanaka and Joe Rothwell did in midfield, allaying fears that Ampadu dropping back would have made the midfield weaker. One match does not guarantee long-term form but the efficiency of the duo will have pleased Farke.

Rothwell won’t get the assist for Solomon’s opener but it was his ball through for Brenden Aaronson that opened the defence. Tanaka’s quick backheel finish was the cherry on top of his performance.

Ramazani question

Largie Ramazani’s goal marked his second in as many games and Farke agreed afterwards that the winger is returning to the kind of form he had before his ankle injury. But he also highlighted that he has competition on his flanks.

Goalscorer Solomon had a brilliant game while Daniel James was also productive. Willy Gnonto is also eager for minutes albeit the Italian is slipping down the pecking order.

Ramazani might not always be a persistent threat during an outing but he is showing that he can get himself into the right areas - and finish - when needed. Goals are the ultimate currency in football and the winger is producing at the moment. He has a right to feel a touch aggrieved if he is not picked against Norwich City on Wednesday.

Nervousness around Meslier

The crowd were audibly anxious when Meslier had something to deal with. He failed to command his area for two early crosses which left fans exacerbated and at one stage he gave the ball away to the opposition when attempting a raking ball.

Farke says he has looked “focused” in training and that he also looked locked in during the match. Meslier did make a good stop in the second half and dealt with a corner well a few moments later.

The manager said he was glad his No 1 got a game and a clean sheet in the first match he played following his blunder against Hull City. He might be placing his trust in the shot-stopper but a fair few supporters are clearly not yet convinced.
