Leeds United are said to be among a number of Championship teams waiting for the green light from Aston Villa to make an approach for striker Louie Barry this month.

The Whites are among a number of second tier clubs being linked with a loan move for the highly rated young striker, having been recalled from a successful spell with League One side Stockport County earlier this month.

The Villa youngster netted 16 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Hatters in the first half of the campaign, predominantly from the left-flank, before being recalled by his parent club at the start of January.

According to Sky Sports, the Premier League side are casting their eye over Barry in training in the next couple of weeks before making a decision on a loan move this month. It comes after a reported approach from Scottish Premiership side Celtic, who are managed by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who is keen on a permanent move for the 21-year-old.

However, Villa are not reportedly looking to offload the striker on a permanent deal this month, with the likes of Boro, Leeds United, Derby County, Millwall and Sunderland all linked with loan move this month.

The decision to keep Barry at Villa Park for the next few weeks means a proposed move to Elland Road would likely come later on in the January transfer window. Daniel Farke's side are lacking goals from the striker position this season and Joe Gelhardt's departure for Hull City will free up space in the first-team squad.

Fellow frontman Patrick Bamford has also been linked with a move away from Leeds this month, with Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham two clubs reportedly keen on his services, though it's unlikely Farke would sanction a move unless a replacement can be found first.
