Leeds United notebook - Norwich City gesture to Daniel Farke and ITV blunder
Daniel Farke’s Leeds United breezed past Norwich City on Wednesday but some of the travelling faithful clearly still have deep respect for the German given his former work at Carrow Road.
There may have been chants of ‘Daniel Farke you left us for s***’ from the away end but louder were the cheers from Whites supporters when it was announced that Norwich fans had taken fewer than one thousand spectators to Elland Road. To be fair, it is four hours each way on a weeknight.
Those of yellow persuasion who didn't try to avoid traffic and stayed until the end delivered a gesture to Farke after full-time. The United boss was circling the pitch after full-time doing his three arm-raise cheers and eventually made his way near to the tunnel.

It seemed Farke produced said gesture to the home section below the visiting fans, but a few of those in the away section seemed to join in. Some fellow Norwich supporters on social media were less than pleased with that given the result.
ITV blunder
ITV are not the first to make this mistake and certainly won’t be the last. The broadcasters were present for United’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, and invited fan favourite Stuart Dallas to be part of their punditry team.
During the game, Josuha Guilavogui came on for the final minutes and the substitution graphics came up on screen to confirm this. Except Josuha became ‘Joshua’. I don’t imagine they can blame it on spellcheck either…
As part of a broadcast agreement, ITV are showing two selected matches to screen on free-to-air television for the second half of the season. United’s Yorkshire derby with Wednesday was the first to be screened while Middlesbrough versus Sunderland will be broadcast on February 3.
A legend visits
The club welcomed in former goalkeeper John Scott, who represented the club between 1950 and 1954, to speak to the Leeds United Foundation’s Over 50s’ Social Club at the LUDO Lounge. The 96-year-old recounted tales of old and brought along his scrapbook ahead of the clash with Norwich.
Current No.1 Illan Meslier met him prior to kick-off too, and posted a touching message on Instagram. The Frenchman wrote: "Honoured to have met John Scott, one of the legends of Leeds United and a true inspiration. It was a privilege to exchange a few words and share a moment with him."
FA Youth Cup success
United’s Under-18s have set up a fifth round FA Youth Cup tie with Manchester City - a repeat of last season’s final - after defeating AFC Fylde 3-2 in a tense affair last Friday. Oliver Pickles grabbed a brace before Louie Dudley netted the decisive goal.
Both sides ended the match with 10 players. Leeds winger Harvey Vincent was shown a second yellow just after half-time before Fylde's Eli Da Silva was also given his marching orders towards the end of the contest.
United will plays hosts to Man City in the next round, which takes place across the weekend on Saturday, February 8 - the same weekend that the senior team hosts Millwall in the fourth round of the FA Cup itself.
A Costa in China
Former United winger Helder Costa has joined newly-promoted Chinese Super League outfit Yunnan Yukun ahead of the new domestic season, which begins next month. Costa left Leeds in October 2023 before eventually joining up with Portuguese side Estoril Praia 10 months later.
He played 13 times for the Liga NOS club this season, scoring once and assisting twice, but has now left Europe to sign a two-year deal in China. Costa, an 11-time Angola international, played 71 matches for Leeds, 23 of which came in the Premier League.
