Even if third-placed Burnley win at Cardiff City tonight, Leeds United remain in a brilliant position to secure automatic promotion. The gap to second is just three points but the Whites are now on a 17-match unbeaten run.

Boss Daniel Farke will be desperate to avoid the dreaded play-offs after what happened at Wembley last year. Another failure in May does not bear thinking about for anyone connected with the club.

Brenden Aaronson's loss of form is a big concern heading into the business end of the campaign. The USA international is without an assist since December and has just two for the season despite operating in the No 10 position. His only goal came in the 7-0 demolition of Cardiff City last month.

"I think overall it's quite normal that sometimes players have a bit of a difficult spell," said Farke. "We could more or less go through each and every individual player.

"I would say each and every player [has had] perhaps two or three games or four games, a bit [of a] weaker spell during the season of 46 games. So for that, I wouldn't interpret too much into it. So what he [Aaronson] still offers us is more or less relentless work rate and to be relentless in his work against the ball, in his pressing, in his counter pressing."

Given the lack of genuine options the Whites have in the attacking midfield department, Aaronson will get more opportunities over the coming weeks to rectify his form. It is an area of the squad that should have been addressed in the past two transfer windows.

The hunt for a new playmaker needs to feature high on United's agenda this summer. The expectation is Farke's side will be competing in the top-flight again so additional quality will be required on the front line to help them re-establish themselves back among the elite.
