Leeds United are set to make a surprise transfer move for Nottingham Forest centre-back Andrew Omobamidele.

The Irish defender was signed by Forest from Norwich City for £11m in 2023. Omobamidele hasn't been able to get much playing time under Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, so he will certainly be looking for clubs where he can get on the field.

Journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Leeds have opened talks with the Premier League side regarding a deal. It is said the deal could be a loan with a guaranteed buy clause. Forest would like to get at least £10m from the sale.

Although Leeds' defence has been good this season with a variety of options to play, Daniel Farke will silently be eyeing up to the Premier League.

Looking at promoted teams like Southampton, it shows a vast difference in play between the Championship and the Premier League that has proven challenging to overcome. Farke will want to broaden his squad to give him more options and a better chance if Leeds find themselves their next season.

Securing the move for Omobamidele won't be easy for Leeds. Championship title rivals Sheffield United are also interested in the 22-year-old defender. However, the South Yorkshire based team are solely looking for a loan move.

Omobamidele moved up through the Norwich academy until he eventually broke into their first team during their 2020/21 promotion-winning season. Back in the Championship, the Irish centre-back was one of The Canaries' most consistent performers in what was a challenging season.

Now sat on the bench at Forest, Omobamidele will surely be looking around at clubs where he can get some playtime - and Leeds look like one of them.
