Leeds United player ratings with Bogle, Piroe and Aaronson poor in Preston North End draw
Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship with a last-gasp draw at Preston North End. An own goal from the hosts rescued the Whites.
The first half did not go the way the visitors wanted. Four counts of sloppy defending from Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle and Illan Meslier were punished, as Brad Potts put the hosts in front.
There was also a big escape for Preston, who saw Ben Whiteman avoid a second yellow card for a lunging challenge on Bogle. Daniel Farke was booked for his protests.
A late own goal from Jack Whatmough rescued a point for Leeds.
Leeds United (4-2-3-1)
1 Illan Meslier
More question marks around his goalkeeping for the opening goal. Cannot be beaten by such a tame effort at his near post. Never inspired a lot of confidence. 5
2 Jayden Bogle
Had to be more aware of Brad Potts as he ran onto the back post for the goal. All-round play was sloppy and frustrating. The odd ball forward caught the eye, but Bogle looked ragged throughout. 4
6 Joe Rodon
Has to hold his hands up to his part in the opening goal. Crazily allowed the cross past him with Potts lurking at the back post. Did generally improve thereafter and never looked in too much bother. 6
5 Pascal Struijk (c)
Never seemed to get a handle on Milutin Osmajic. Should have done better with the initial run by the striker which created the opening goal. Didn't cut his usually reassuring figure in defence. 5
25 Sam Byram
Really solid. Was not sullied by the goal in the same way his team-mates were. Threatened forward throughout the game. 6
22 Ao Tanaka
Even in a poor game like this, there were moments of quality from the Japanese midfielder. Battled well and laid on some lovely passes. 6
8 Joe Rothwell
Nothing like the control he would have wanted. Battled and showed energy. Set-pieces were inconsistent. 5
7 Daniel James
Not at his best, but still delivered some of the best moments in attack. Hit the crossbar. Created chances. Didn't get the run of the ball. 7
11 Brenden Aaronson
Another anaemic performance from the American. Brought nothing to the attack and the one golden chance he had was shanked into the away end. 4

29 Wilfried Gnonto
His best play came in the second half before his withdrawal. Some jinking runs and decent deliveries, but wasn't consistently hurting the hosts. 5
10 Joel Piroe
Another start and another match spent wondering what his role was on the field. Ineffective from start to finish. 4

Decent little showing late on as Leeds looked to take it to their hosts at the death. N/A

Pushed a decent chance wide of an open goal. Asked questions of the home defence though. Intelligent runs and battled. 6

Committed defenders once or twice, but still not quite the whole package in attack. N/A
17 Largie Ramazani (on for Gnonto 64min)
