Leeds United succumbed to their first Championship defeat since November, going down 1-0 to Portsmouth after a poor performance.

The visitors were not able to create much in the final third and were undone by a Colby Bishop goal after a mix up in communication between Joe Rodon and Illan Meslier.

Daniel James might have felt he should have had a penalty in the first half after being clattered from behind. However, Joel Piroe can have no hiding place after missing two gilt-edged opportunities. Here is how the players rated.

1 - Illan MESLIER

Was at joint-fault for the goal, despite having a good game before that. Has not kept a clean sheet for four games now. 5

2 - Jayden BOGLE

A few loose balls in the opening 15 minutes and was beaten by Josh Murphy a number of times. Wasn't able to attack much and looked largely frustrated. 5

5 - Pascal STRUIJK

Got his head to a lot and often got a foot in when Portsmouth were about to break through. Was also prone to an error or stray pass. 6

6 - Joe RODON

Gave the ball away a few times but also cleared a lot of threatening balls. He is not blameless for the mix up in communication for the goal. 5

3 - Junior FIRPO

Won a few good early headers and often found space. Driving run almost led to a goal in the first half and he hit the bar with a header soon after. 7

44 - Ilia GRUEV

Was fairly positive, both mopping up and looking forward. Won the ball well but faded in the second half and lacked attacking bite. 6

22 - Ao TANAKA

Asked to sit, he lost no end of balls early on. Looked really out of sorts and was unable to get up the field much as a result of his role. 4

7 - Daniel JAMES

Was left aggrieved after feeling he was fouled in the box early on. Should have played the ball earlier for Solomon for Piroe's miss. Kept Portsmouth on their toes but was often snuffed out. 6

11 - Brenden AARONSON

Started well with a few good touches and pieces of link-up play but then did nothing. Barely noticed he was on the pitch. 3

14 - Manor SOLOMON

Often had two markers on him and therefore struggled to make an impact. Rounded the goalkeeper well after a poor first touch for Joel Piroe's missed sitter. His shot had led to Piroe's first missed chance. Tracked back when needed to too but left the field having not produced much danger otherwise. 6

10 - Joel PIROE

Should have scored in the first half and definitely should have in the second with a 'keeper-less goal at his mercy shortly after half-time. Must not forget his decent build up play but he primarily is here to score goals. 5

SUBS

8 - Joe ROTHWELL (on 68 mins for Tanaka)

Injected more impetus into the midfield but hit a late free-kick into the wall. 5

17 - Largie RAMAZANI (on for 68 mins for Solomon)

Lost first duel and struggled to make an impact. Got involved in a bit of pushing near the end 5

19 - Mateo JOSEPH (on 68 mins for for Aaronson)

Showed a few nice touches around the box but couldn't get a shot off. 6

25 - Sam BYRAM (on 78 mins for Bogle)

Won a few headers and put his body about to disrupt the attacking game plan. Also lost a few muscular battles. Unlucky with a great header at the end. 6

29 - Wilfried GNONTO (on 78 mins for Gruev)

Played in central midfield and tried to run forward when he could. A hard task in the circumstances. 5
