Leeds United might well field a very strong XI against the in-form Coventry City and Frank Lampard on Wednesday.

Daniel Farke has failed to win any of his four matches against the former Derby County and Chelsea boss, who only linked up with the Sky Blues in November. The former England star is currently enjoying a four-game winning run in the Championship.

So United could be in for a stern test this midweek. Farke will be relieved to have Pascal Struijk back. He played 20 minutes against Cardiff on Saturday, though he might not start on Wednesday.

Farke says he is mindful about managing his minutes given he has had three weeks on the sidelines. Ethan Ampadu has played solidly alongside Rodon and will likely continue there should Struijk be unable to start.

Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka have built up a good central partnership together and will both get the nod if Ampadu is required to play in defence once again. It might be that Struijk comes on later on for one the midfield pair and Ampadu then pushes up.

As for the flanks, Jayden Bogle is in undroppable form on the right while Junior Firpo’s three assists in the 7-0 hammering of Cardiff means he will surely get the nod, despite the recent good form of the much-appreciated Sam Byram. Illan Mesilier will start in goal behind them.

In front of both full-backs will likely be the wingers who both have three goals and three assists each in their last six league outings. Manor Solomon and Daniel James have been a delight to watch.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Joel Piroe looked a different player to the one that struggled to impact the play against Burnley five days earlier. He can claim credit for sparking the creation of the opening two goals before the Dutchman scored twice himself.

Leeds might not have acquired anyone in the transfer window but such a team as this goes some way to justifying Farke’s market reluctance.

Predicted starting XI: Meslier; Bogle, Ampadu, Rodon, Firpo; Rothwell, Tanaka; James, Aaronson, Solomon; Piroe.
