Leeds United get new Premier League promotion twist after Sheffield United clash
Leeds United's quest for promotion to the Premier League became much clearer this weekend despite not playing a Championship fixture.
Daniel Farke's side were in FA Cup action on Saturday afternoon as they lost 2-0 at home to Millwall in the fourth round. United's exit from the competition means their full attention will be on earning promotion back to the Premier League this season.
Leeds are top of the Championship table and earned a five-point lead thanks to their win over Coventry City in midweek. That advantage had the chance to be reduced this weekend thanks to some of United's promotion rivals being in action.

Sheffield United claimed a 2-1 win over Portsmouth to close the gap on Leeds to just two points. The Blades won the game thanks to goals from Gustavo Hamer and Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
Even though Leeds only have a two-point gap at the top of the table, their goal difference compared to second-placed Sheffield United is still significantly superior.
Burnley were not in Championship action this weekend as they faced Southampton. Instead, their league match against Oxford United was rearranged to midweek, with the Clarets claiming a 1-0 win at Turf Moor, but now lie in third place and five points behind Leeds and outside the automatic promotion places.
Sunderland were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Watford on Saturday afternoon. The result leaves the Black Cats in fourth place in the Championship table and seven points behind Leeds with 15 matches left to play.
Leeds are next in Championship action when they travel to face Watford on Tuesday night. That will be followed by back-to-back matches against promotion rivals Sunderland and Sheffield United before the end of the month.
