Leeds United maintained control of the promotion race with a stunning 3-1 comeback win at Sheffield United on Monday evening.

Second half goals from Junior Firpo, Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe saw the Whites stay seven points ahead of the play-offs. The win also means Leeds have eclipsed last season’s feat of going 15 games unbeaten.

Daniel Farke was delighted with the three points after full-time but insisted that the job is far from done. He watched from the gantry as he served his touchline ban. Here are three other things supporters may have missed.

A scuffle

After the third goal went in, there were jubilant scenes on the bench but there were also some ugly scenes behind the dugout. It is unclear what exactly ensued but a scuffle broke out between pitchside personnel and what appeared to be a spectator.

Someone was seen being led away flanked by attendants in high-vis jackets in the aftermath. It’s not known who was involved and, goal aside, what sparked the melee.

In the midst of it, there was a clanging of seats from the home end when Joel Piroe scored from range as the fans filtered out out Bramall Lane. Conversely, the Leeds faithful remained raucous after full-time.

Meslier jeers

After a wobbly first-half, Meslier was the subject of taunts from the Sheffield United support from behind his goal. He dropped or fumbled at least three balls within the first 25 minutes, at one stage having to thank Ilia Gruev for clearing his backwards flap off the line.

In the process of the opener, Meslier had tipped the ball superbly onto the bar but when the header from Tyrese Campbell came his way via the post, the goalkeeper handed the ball into the net. A few loose kicks followed too.

Meslier always does some warm-up catches before the beginning of the second half and while he was doing this on Monday evening, the Sheffield United supporters were cheering every catch with sarcasm. Goalkeeper coach Ed Wootten gave him some words of encouragement before the second period began.

A reunion

There were several reunions on Monday evening. Jayden Bogle was the subject of boos throughout the game having left Sheffield United for Leeds this summer.

He gave a big cheer towards the away end after full time. Former Blades midfielder Ethan Ampadu was also in attendance despite being ruled out with a knee injury.

Both he and Daniel James were seen catching up with former Leeds ace Stuart Dallas on the touchline, who was during punditry duty for Sky Sports. The trio had a good natter prior to kick-off.
