Leeds United show 'serious' transfer interest in Swedish ace amid Illan Meslier uncertainty
Leeds United have expressed "serious interest" in Mjallby goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist heading into the January transfer window, according to Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt.
It is not the first time the Whites have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old. Tornqvist was reportedly on United's radar last year.
The shot-stopper has racked up seven clean sheets from 27 matches this term, shipping in 29 goals. The FotbollDirekt report claims the Whites have "concrete" interest in the Swede, having sent scouts to watch Tornqvist in action. It has been claimed Mjallby value Tornqvist around £1.3m, with the club's sporting director Hasse Larsson confirming there is interest in the goalkeeper. Copenhagen, Genoa and Sassuolo have also been credited with an interest in Tornqvist, who has been on Mjallby's books since 2020.

United are well-stocked in the goalkeeping department. They have three senior shot-stoppers on their books in llian Meslier, Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns. Manchester United and Rennes are among the clubs to have been linked with Whites No 1 Meslier.
On Meslier's future, former United midfielder Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “A lot will depend on whether Leeds United get back to the Premier League. I can’t see Leeds selling him in the January transfer window, certainly not with the way they’re going, looking to get automatic promotion.
“Illan has already said that he’s happy, he’s settled at Leeds United, and he’s been outstanding for them, so I can’t see Illan going to even the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal, who are keeping tabs on the situation and he’s not going to go and sit on the bench for one of those clubs when he’s been a regular for Leeds United.
“If Leeds get promoted then I think Illan will be offered a new contract and they’ll be in the Premier League, but I cannot see them selling him in the January transfer window.”
