Former Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis has urged Armenian and Krasnodar attacking midfielder Eduard Spertsyan to join Leeds United if that offer is on the table in the summer.

The 24-year-old has been earning rave reviews for the Russian club this season and his former coach Nikola Elich believes he is one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe at present. Despite his young age, he has been named captain of Krasnodar making 26 appearances, scoring six goals and grabbing three assists in the process.

His rave reviews in Russia have seen him linked with a switch to Elland Road but Russian pundit and former international Dmitri Radchenko suggested that the English game may be a step beyond the midfielder. "The Italian and Spanish championships will suit Eduard’s playing style," he said via Leeds United News, "but I have big questions about England."

While this will be a concern for Leeds supporters, Kanchelskis believes the 24-year-old should jump at the opportunity to sign for the club if he gets the chance this summer. "I think that, with Spertsyan’s skills and mastery, he can play in England," he explained.

"If there is interest from Leeds, then why not? The team is looking to the future, aiming to enter the Premier League.

"[It is] A club with a name, with traditions. Spertsyan needs to use this chance because we need to face the truth, every year, he performs more and more quietly.

"[In England], he will progress. Here he had a bright first and second season, and then it became quieter."

Spertsyan was linked with a deadline day move to Leeds but that did not come to fruition as the Whites chose to stick with their current squad. After victory over Coventry City on Wednesday night, Daniel Farke's side are now five points clear at the top of the Championship.
