Winning the game before Christmas always feels good and when Leeds United's 4-0 romp over Oxford United finished, Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin Stevens was greeted with loud cheers by the home supporters.

Just like they did last year, the Whites go into Christmas on the back of a 4-0 win. Daniel James, Jayden Bogle, Brenden Aaronson and Manor Solomon were among the goals to keep the heat on league leaders Sheffield United.

Despite some moments of frustration at the intensity of their game, Leeds showed real threat and prowess against Oxford. Beating one of the most out-of-form teams in the league isn't ground-breaking, but it is another step toward the Premier League.

Here, LeedsLive take a look at some talking points and moments missed from the Christmas cracker at Elland Road.

Farke's title advantage

After last season's play-off heartbreak, Leeds and Farke know they must be in control of every controllable in the promotion race this season. Before a ball was kicked on Saturday, Leeds were on 42 points, three off Sheffield United at the top.

Fortunately, thanks to the big wins over Luton, Plymouth and Coventry, the Whites have an advantage over their rivals: goal difference. After their biggest win of the season against Oxford, Leeds have breathing room in that department.

The Whites are on 26+ after yesterday's win, the best in the league. Sheffield United's 2-0 win at Cardiff means they are just five behind but there is a seven-goal buffer over third-placed Burnley.

In a bizarre scenario where goal difference does become impactful at the end of the season, Leeds could do with having that advantage in their favour. So when Leeds were already 1-0 ahead against Oxford, Farke constantly asked questions to the referee over Oxford's time-wasting. Luckily, it meant very little as they scored for fun in the second half.

Rothwell frustration

The weather conditions at Elland Road were difficult for both sets of players. Oxford goalkeeper Jamie Cumming became the subject of constant mockery by the home fans with his goal kicks being impacted by the wind.

For Leeds, it was set-piece taker Joe Rothwell who had to deal with the wind. A number of corners and free-kicks were delayed because the ball would not sit on the grass without blowing away.

At one point, a steward came to the midfielder's rescue to hold the corner flag, which was aggressively blowing, to allow Rothwell to deliver a corner. Unlike Oxford, Leeds seemed to learn from their mistakes and did their best to go against the wind.

Elland Road impact

The impact that the home crowd can have should never be underplayed. Fortunately for Leeds, they have one of the best fanbases in England and it was a constant problem for one Oxford player.

As mentioned above, the wind caused all sorts of problems and goalkeeper Cumming struggled to strike a single decent goal-kick. What made his afternoon more difficult was the verbal abuse he received from the home fans behind his goal.

Supporters let him know they were watching whenever he had the ball at his feet and it clearly played a part. He did eventually revert to using his central defenders, rather than going long. At 1-0, the former Chelsea academy star seemed to share a joke with the home fans.

But that soon stopped as Leeds added to their tally, as did his long goal kicks.

Aaronson love

In the first-half, some of Aaronson's decisions were met with some groans from supporters. He tried his hardest but not much went his way. However, in the second half, he was superb and was rewarded for his efforts with a goal.

He received a great reception from supporters when he came off and at full-time, he shared a nice moment with two fans as the team did their lap of honour.

The USMNT ran over the fans, took off his Leeds coat and removed his match-worn shirt. He handed it over to the woman and man before having a brief conversation with them. A nice moment with the fans and Aaronson before they hugged and he returned to the squad.

Farke was full of praise for Aaronson after the game, pointing towards his work ethic to improve from his difficult start to the season and becoming one of the most "valuable" players at Elland Road.
