Leeds United-linked Eduard Spertsyan has been told a move to English football may not suit him.

Reports in Russia over the weekend have linked the Krasnodar attacking midfielder with a move to Elland Road. Leeds and all other clubs in England have until 11pm on Monday evening to complete any last-minute deals before the winter transfer window closes.

The £17 million-rated player previously worked with Leeds boss Daniel Farke at Krasnodar in 2022 and has long been expected to make the step up to one of Europe's big leagues. Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax have all been linked with the 24-year-old, who has scored six goals across all competitions so far this season.

But Russian pundit and former international Dmitri Radchenko believes Spertsyan would be better suited to Spanish or Italian football than a transfer to England.

“The Italian and Spanish championships will suit Eduard’s playing style," he said via Leeds United News. "But I have big questions about England.”

Spertsyan has also appeared to pour cold water on any chance of a transfer before the summer. "I had offers from European clubs this winter, but you should ask the club about that – I am here for now and will continue playing for another six months,” he told RB Sport, via Sportaran.

“Was I not interested in the offers? The clubs were in discussions among themselves, I don’t know."

Leeds are in need of a striker, with Premier League strugglers Southampton recently turning down a loan offer from the Whites for striker Cameron Archer. The Saints' forward was left out of Southampton's trip to Ipswich on Saturday due to injury amid rumours that he could leave before Monday's deadline.
