Leeds United transfer 'offer' doesn't fit 49ers plan but would fit Daniel Farke's 'stay awake' philosophy
Leeds United have been offered an opportunity to get a deal done for Brazilian midfielder Danilo Barbosa with his club Botafogo looking to get a transfer sorted this month. That's according to a report by The Mirror who say Barbosa is being offered to a number of clubs, with his parent club no doubt keen to cash in now given he is in the last year of his contract and is expected to head to Europe next.
Everton and Sheffield United have previously been linked with the 28-year-old defensive midfielder, but now seem unlikely to pursue any previous interest, with the Blades close to confirming a deal for Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City, while the Toffees have put together a new transfer list after the arrival of manager David Moyes. Leeds Live understands it's also unlikely we'll see Barbosa in a Leeds shirt by the end of this transfer window, though nothing should be totally ruled out.
A defensive midfielder is not a position Leeds are likely to look to strengthen in January. However, manager Daniel Farke has said the club will stay awake to opportunities and there's no escaping that at a reported £2m transfer fee, this could certainly be that for a player who has previously played for the likes of Valencia, Benfica and Nice.

A league winner in Brazil, who also lifted the Copa Libertadores (South America's Champions League) , Barbosa has a wealth of experience and at a cut-price deal, is sure to be of interest to a number of clubs if an agreement can be made this month. The player, meanwhile, is reportedly happy to stay in Brazil and has not been pushing for an exit or a return to Europe.
