Leeds United attacker Sonny Perkins is on the brink of making his season-long loan spell at Leyton Orient a permanent transfer, with a deal expected to go through before deadline day on Monday.

Perkins, whose United contract expires this summer, is set to join the League One club for an undisclosed fee with a substantial sell-on clause attached. The deal is expected to be quickly finalised.

The move comes after Orient boss Richie Wellens stated his intention to sign Perkins on a full-time basis earlier this month. When asked about the player’s future last week, Farke refrained from giving away details but did not rule out his potential departure.

The United boss said: “Not too many comments on my side. I want to focus on the players who are here and we’ll see what the future brings.”

Perkins - who spent the first half of last season on loan at Oxford United - has notched four goals and six assists in 29 matches for Orient this season.

The 20-year-old joined Leeds from West Ham United in 2022 but has only managed to make four senior appearances. He scored his only United goal against Cardiff City in the FA Cup in January 2023.

The youngster is set to become the first permanent exit of the window, with United already sanctioning two senior loan exits. Joe Gelhardt has joined Hull City for the rest of the season while Charlie Crew has linked up with Doncaster Rovers.

Farke has clarified that he does not expect any more senior players to depart from his current squad ahead of transfer deadline day, but conceded he could never rule anything out should a ‘crazy’ offer arrive.

Meanwhile, Leeds Live understands United are not in the running to sign Newcastle United Matty Targett, despite contrary speculation. Left-back is not thought to be one of the areas of transfer concern for the club, who have always maintained that a quiet window is on the cards.

However, Farke is due to give a transfer update later this week. "I have not checked my phone for the last six hours," he said following Monday’s goalless draw with Burnley.

"I will check it after this press conference, perhaps I can tell you more in the next press conference."
