Leeds United could be ready to splash the cash on £10m-rated Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi - but may have to wait until the summer to make their move.

Daniel Farke is acutely aware of his lack of options in central defence, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk first choice all season. Max Wober has missed the majority of the campaign through injury and while Ethan Ampadu can play at the back, Farke prefers him in a central midfield role.

Both Rodon and Struijk have avoided injury issues so far, but Leeds are keen to ensure their Championship promotion bid is not deralied by any absences. Swiss defender Elvedi has been on their radar for some time, but as Give Me Sport report, the 28-year-old may be more inclined to move in the summer.

Much will come down to Leeds' promotion fate, with the prospect of Premier League football far more enticing. The Whites currently top the Championship, of course, and it remains to be seen whether Farke and Co can persuade transfer targets to move in January with promotion not yet assured.

Elvedi, who has been capped 56 times by Switzerland, has made nine Bundesliga appearances for Gladbach this season, missing several games with a thigh inury, but returning to the starting line-up in recent weeks. However, it is thought the German side would not stand in his way should a suitable bid come in.
