Leeds United's almost perfect weekend accompanied by defiant warning from Sunderland to rivals
Leeds United have an opportunity to make it almost a perfect weekend in the promotion race when travelling to Burnley tomorrow night. Starting on Friday night the Whites got to watch on as Sheffield United missed out on an opportunity to go top of the Championship after being blown away 3-0 at home to struggling Hull City.
That shock result helped set a tone for the weekend, with Sunderland following suit on Saturday by blowing their advantage to allow basement side Plymouth to snatch an injury time equaliser and a 2-2 draw. Those results leave the Blades a point behind Leeds, and Sunderland a further four points back.
The gap between the sides could well be four and seven points respectively come Monday evening if Leeds can get the better of Burnley in, a result that would ensure the Whites are the only top four side to win in matchday 29 and the only side within the top seven to pick up three points except for West Brom.

While it's not been a weekend for Leeds' rivals to cherish, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris is still confident his side are in a strong position to strike at Leeds and the leaders.
“We are still in a good place, but the league is tough," says Le Bris. "We have to learn from this experience, manage things differently when we’re feeling a bit more tired, and push ourselves further. It’s still one point.
“But if we want to be in the top bracket of the table, we need to improve.”
