Now within the Burnley ranks, Shelvey is eager to contribute. He said: "But I’m part of this team now and my aim is to do my best to help this club get back into the Premier League, where it belongs."

The seasoned player, boasting over 450 professional games since debuting for Charlton at 16, claims past experience with Liverpool, Swansea, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, followed by a stint in Turkey with Caykur Rizespor and Eyupspor.

He is Burnley's third signing of the January transfer window, following on from veteran forward Ashley Barnes and defender Oliver Sonne. Shelvey joins Scott Parker's outfit who are currently riding high in third in Championship, with their sights set on a clash at Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday evening.

With 19 matches remaining, the Clarets trail table-topping United by three points.
