Leeds United's unsung moment at Derby County as key man shows importance
Few names divide opinion more on the terraces than Leeds United's number one Illan Meslier.
It was only a couple of months ago when Meslier was public enemy number one when he made a huge blunder to cost Leeds a certain victory at Sunderland. However, if he chucked away two points in the North East, he recovered them again at Derby County.
For much of the game, Leeds were on top but they were not clinical. Brenden Aaronson may have scored the winner, but he, along with Dan James and Largie Ramazani all missed big chances to make the evening more comfortable.

It could have been a whole different story if Meslier had not produced a stunning stop to deny Derby's centre-back Curtis Nelson from a corner. Instead, the goalkeeper stood strong and got a strong arm up to keep the game goalless.
With ten minutes remaining, Leeds would win it and Meslier's moment will quickly be forgotten. However, he is showing himself to be an important cog in this team that is pushing for a return to the Premier League.
The January transfer window opens next week and Meslier finds himself linked with a move to rivals Manchester United and Arsenal. Both clubs would be happy to pay a considerable sum for the 24-year-old and after Sunderland, Leeds would have had plenty of volunteers to drive him to the top flight.
But now the narrative has changed again and you would think it would take a big bid for Daniel Farke to allow Meslier to leave the club this winter. That is how quickly things change in football and the shot stopper deserves his fair share of the plaudits after yet another big victory in the title race.
