Crystal Palace have been handed a significant blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this evening (7.30pm kick-off).

The Londoners will be without defender Trovoh Chalobah after Chelsea took the decision to end his season-long loan at Selhurst Park early.

The 25-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Eagles so far this season and is rated as one of their more influential players.

The Athletic report that the recall takes immediate effect, meaning Chalobah will not be available for Palace's trip to Leicester.

Chelsea’s boss, the former Leicester manager Enzo Maresca, gave no hint of the recall when asked about Chalobah earlier this week, saying: “He is a Palace player. He was here with us working in pre-season very well and then he left. Now he is a Palace player.”

Palace boss Oliver Glasner admitted his frustration over the Chalobah situation in his pre-match press conference.

The player also missed Palace’s FA Cup victory over Stockport on Sunday, and ther Eagles manager said: “Chelsea has the possibility to call him back from loan. There is a little bit of uncertainty at the moment – will they do it, when they will do it?

“We need clarity, he needs clarity, so that is the situation and let’s see. I never tell you who is playing, this is the same. I will decide what is best for our team and maybe Trevoh is involved or not (against Leicester), so let’s see.

The Foxes are in need of points to climb out of the relegation zone following five successive Premier League defeats. They are one place off bottom on 14 points, seven behind Palace in 15th, and also two from safety.

Injuries to Chelsea centre-backs Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana - a former Leicester player - had sparked speculation that Chalobah could be set for an early return to Stamford Bridge.
