Leicester City transfer latest as Chelsea link lacks sense and relegation rival targeted
Leicester City are said to have made enquiries over Chelsea midfielder and former loanee Cesare Casadei.
The Daily Mail report that City have joined three Serie A sides – Lazio, Torino and Monza – in looking into a deal for the Italian youth international. But given City’s priorities this January, that doesn’t feel likely.
City are well-stocked for both deep-lying and attacking midfielders and based off his 25 appearances at the King Power Stadium last season, Casadei would not oust either Bilal El Khannouss or Facundo Buonanotte in attacking roles, nor overtake Harry Winks, Boubakary Soumare, nor Wilfred Ndidi for a spot at the base of the midfield. It would be a peculiar decision to either use up a Premier League loan spot or spend cash on the 21-year-old when there’s more urgent business to be done in defence and out wide.

Casadei was growing into his role at City when he was recalled out of the blue by Mauricio Pochettino, only to barely feature for Chelsea in the second half of last season. Under Enzo Maresca, Casadei has played six times this term, but not once in the Premier League.
Relegation rivalry may hinder Walker-Peters move
A new full-back is on the radar for City this month and Sky Sports say they’re keeping tabs on Southampton’s England international Kyle Walker-Peters. It would certainly be an interesting move.
Walker-Peters has been one of the best-performing players at St Mary’s this season amid Southampton’s struggles on their return to the Premier League. Capable of playing on both sides, he’s an excellent ball-carrier and that would certainly make him effective in the advanced full-back role that Ruud van Nistelrooy plays with.
But would Southampton ever consider selling one of their best players to a relegation rival? Well, it’s more possible than initially seems logical. Walker-Peters is out of contract in the summer and so this is the Saints’ final chance to make money from him.
If they think there’s no way he would sign a new deal, they might feel they should take the money while they can. They’ll have to weigh up how that might affect their survival chances though.
From City’s perspective, the issue would be whether Walker-Peters wants to join them. If he’s not going to sign a new contract at St Mary’s because of fears he could be playing in the Championship next season, then a switch to the King Power Stadium may not be right for him either.
‘Enquiries’ over Croatian striker
If City are going to bring in a new striker, he needs to be different to what they have. That would be true of 6ft 3in Croatia international Petar Musa.
City and Nottingham Forest have been linked to the 26-year-old, who is currently playing in MLS for FC Dallas. He’s only been there a year, and scored 16 goals in 30 MLS matches in 2024.
As you’d suspect at that height, Musa wins plenty of aerial battles and he’s clearly got an eye for goal. The level of the MLS compared to the Premier League will always leave doubts, but he did play for Benfica prior to moving to Dallas.
He scored 12 goals in 44 league appearances for Benfica in the 18 months before his switch, which may not sound like many. However, given the limited minutes he played in some of those outings, it actually works out at one goal every 97 minutes, a terrific ratio.
Reports suggest he would not be allowed to leave for less than €18m (£15m). He was signed 12 months ago for a fee rising to £10.5m.
