Leicester City transfer latest with curious links to Newcastle and Southampton midfielders
Leicester City have been credited with interest in Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.
City have joined West Ham and Europa League holders Atalanta in checking out the Northern Ireland international, according to the Daily Mail. He’s currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, and is performing well.
Signed from Manchester City for more than £10m in 2023, defensive midfielder Charles started plenty of games for Southampton early on in the Championship last term, but featured less and less as the season moved towards the crunch period. After the Saints were promoted, Charles was loaned out.

But with Wednesday, he’s been very good. The 21-year-old has excelled in breaking up play and moving it forward, registered four assists and a goal, having started all 21 Championship matches he’s been available for.
While his talent and potential cannot be denied, a January move to City seems unlikely. A defensive midfielder is some way from being a priority for the club right now.
In Boubakary Soumare, Harry Winks and Wilfred Ndidi, Ruud van Nistelrooy has three players who are all worthy of starting Premier League matches, while Oli Skipp and Hamza Choudhury are there as back-ups. That throws doubts over suggestions the club might move for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff too.
The Mail report that Newcastle will listen to offers for their homegrown midfielder this month, with City, Wolves, and Everton informed as such. The 27-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract at St James’ Park, has played in 16 of Newcastle’s 19 Premier League fixtures this season, but only started eight.
