Leicester City have two weeks to add to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s relegation-threatened squad before the January transfer window closes.

So far they have brought Woyo Coulibaly to the club and recalled Tom Cannon from Stoke City but seem set to sell the striker to Sheffield United for at least £10m.

However, their seven-game Premier League losing run and the fractious atmosphere inside the King Power Stadium seems to have made the need to recruit new players altogether more urgent as the clock ticks down on the February 3 deadline.

Here’s a round-up of the latest transfer rumours involving the ailing Foxes...

Wriggle room narrows

As they close in on the signing of Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron, Atlanta United seem to be covering their bases with their search for a striker and Leicester City have been sucked into the backwash.

Sky Sports News report the MLS outfit have bid £18m for Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath and have also submitted an offer for Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Edouard – but can only sign one of them given they have only two Designated Player spots on their roster.

Clearly that affects the Foxes given Edouard is currently on loan at the King Power Stadium and has made virtually no impact since his summer move. The former Celtic man has played only eight games, made only one Premier League start and is yet to score.

City are thought to be keen to end the deal and free up another space for a Premier League loan so will be desperate for Atlanta to choose the 27-year-old. However, Sky say it is Lath who is the more likely deal to go through.

Italian’s job

Meanwhile last season’s loan midfielder Cesare Casadei remains a target for Lazio, who ‘have not given up hope’ and could look to hijack Torino’s deal for the Italian.

Casadei spent the first half of the 2023/24 promotion campaign at the King Power on loan from Chelsea before being recalled having struggled to convince Enzo Maresca he deserved more game-time.

He made eight starts and scored two goals before going back to Stamford Bridge at a time when Wilfred Ndidi was injured. Once there he made 11 appearances off the bench under Mauricio Pochettino.

Maresca hasn’t played him in the league at all this term and the 22-year-old has had to settle for a handful of games in the Europa Conference League. That could be set to end in the coming days.

Striker move

It was reported in the summer that City had enquired about Santiago Gimenez, the Feyenoord striker whom Nottingham Forest were keen to buy.

The Mexican remained with the Eredivisie outfit but with the transfer window open his future has once again been a topic for discussion.

There seems no chance of Forest rekindling their interest in a player who was at best equivocal about the prospects of coming to the City Ground – instead it’s been claimed that AC Milan are interested in the 23-year-old. Gazzetta dello Sport are saying the forward is keen on the move to Serie A.

And finally

Former Fox Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new deal at Celtic.

A member of the Premier League title winning team is now under contract until the summer of 2026 having played every game for Brendan Rodgers so far this term.

And City seem to have missed out on a loan deal for Brighton’s Julio Enciso, who has completed his Ipswich Town medical, according to Sky Sports.
