Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:36

It’s full-time in Leicester and several missed chances for the home side means that Crystal Palace take all three points with them back to London. This is now the first time since 1992 that the Eagles have gone six successive top-flight away games without losing. Vardy had the best of the chances in the first half, with his close-range effort being saved well by Henderson to keep the score level. Mateta had a similar opportunity down the other end, but instead, his shot went wildly over the bar. The game was level at 0-0 at half-time, leaving an open, and an important second period for both sides. Palace started the second half with intent, and their pressure paid off only seven minutes after the restart. Sarr found Mateta with a perfect through ball after a driving run, and the Frenchman rounded the keeper, before finishing from a tight angle. That made the score 1-0, but the action wasn’t done yet. Leicester turned on the burners and had various chances to level up the game. Soumare saw his strike rattle the bar in the 69th minute, in what would’ve been his first Premier League goal. They continued to commit men forward, leaving space for Palace to venture up the pitch. They got a free-kick, which Eze curled in, and Guehi was at the back post to finish brilliantly. He might be a defender, but his volley was of the quality you would expect from an established striker as he made it 2-0. The game ended at that scoreline, as Leicester seemed defeated after the second goal, and didn’t threaten all that much. Palace take all three points, and Leicester face the reality of a tough relegation battle in the coming months. Leicester finished the game with an xG of 1.52, whereas Palace finished with 1.81 xG, showing their attacking prowess compared with the first half. Thank you for joining this live commentary, goodbye!

FULL-TIME: LEICESTER CITY 0-2 CRYSTAL PALACE

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:25

CHANCE! Munoz sets up Sarr inside the box, following an open and quick break forward. His right-footed shot was saved at the near post, and Palace have a corner.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:24

Leicester have a free-kick in a good position at the end of the game. This might be the last opportunity for them to grab a goal. Ayew hits it straight at Henderson, however, and the clock continues to tick down.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:23

All six of Marc Guehi’s Premier League goals have come from set-piece situations (3x corner, 3x free-kick). His goal here has all but ensured a win for Palace.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:21

There will be five added minutes!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:21

Now Palace have a corner down the other end of the pitch, and it’s Devenny who will take it. He swung it in with his left foot, but it was easily claimed by Stolarczyk.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:20

Clyne also joins the action, and he is replacing Mitchell in defence. Palace’s defence has been great in this game, and Mitchell in particular has had a solid performance.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:17

Leicester have a corner as we near the end of the 90 minutes. It was a good ball by Ayew, but Lacroix got up well to clear the danger.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:16

Nketiah has an effort towards the Leicester net, and it shows that he is desperate for a goal. He shot on the swivel and the shot lacked any sort of conviction.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:14

That goal was an insurance one for Palace, and they now look as though they will head back to London with all three points, barring a major collapse.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:07

Palace look as though they are readying Devenny to come onto the pitch, aswell as Nketiah. Glasner is preparing to roll the dice in the final 15.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:07

Palace need to be really careful when they try to counter. They are committing too many men forward at once, and with the state of their passing, the attacks are breaking down which leaves them vulnerable.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:04

The home fans are getting agitated with how long this Palace side are taking over dead balls. Henderson held onto it for a considerable amount of time before taking a goal-kick, but he escaped a booking.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:01

Another word on Palace’s passing accuracy, they sit at 71.7% pass accuracy in the opposition half! For context, Leicester’s is at 81.6%, which is over 10% higher than their opponents, and they’re losing!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

21:00

OFF THE BAR! McAteer tees up Soumare on the edge of the box, but the pass bobbled slightly as he hit it. The shot beat Henderson, but was kept out by the woodwork!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:56

Leicester make three changes. The first of them sees El Khannous leaving the pitch in place of Daka, as the home team look to add some more attacking power to their team.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:56

Substitution Facundo Valentín Buonanotte Kasey Ian McAteer

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:56

Substitution Harry Billy Winks Oliver William Skipp

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:55

Despite being ahead, Palace’s passing continues to be poor when they need a cutting-edge. Doucoure just tried a lofted pass up to Mateta to run onto, but it didn’t clear the Leicester backline!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:52

CHANCE! Stolarczyk denies Mitchell at close-range! Sarr picks out another great pass, and he should’ve had another assist. The Palace left-backs first touch was heavy, and his shot was saved by the Leicester goalkeeper.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:52

Substitution William James Hughes Daichi Kamada

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:49

Mateta has scored four goals across his five Premier League games against Leicester - his joint-most against any side in the competition (also Aston Villa). He loves playing the Foxes and he’s added another here.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:47

CLOSE! Munoz got down the right and looked for Mateta in the box again. Mateta misses the ball by a couple of inches, otherwise it would’ve certainly been 2-0! What an opportunity.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:46

That is a massive goal for Palace, they had been defensively strong at 0-0, and now they’re ahead it will be a case of defending that lead until the final whistle.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:43

Assist Ismaïla Sarr

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

Goal Jean-Philippe Mateta

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:40

Palace have seen more of the ball in the opening exchanges of the half. They haven’t done anything with it yet, but boring possession is better than not having it at all!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:39

This half of football could be massive for both of these teams’ seasons. If either side can pick up three points here, it will be a great boost as we are into the second half of the season.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:37

KICK-OFF! The second half is under way!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:27

Looking to the second half, Leicester will need to continue creating the chances that they have been making. If they continue to, it will only be a matter of time until Vardy sticks one in the back of the net. For Palace, they need to start creating more chances than their opponents. They are playing poorly by their standards, and their passing has led to them creating next to nothing. It will be a big second half coming up for both sides.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:25

An eventful first half ends goalless, despite multiple chances for both sides to go ahead. The game started in a fast fashion, with Vardy having two shots in the opening two minutes, but his best opportunity came in the 17th minute. He was denied at close range by Henderson, following a quick break from the Foxes. Palace failed to find their rhythm for large parts of the half, and Lerma being forced off in the 20th minute only added to their problems. They did make a couple of chances in the first period, with Mateta shooting over the bar from a good-looking chance in the 29th minute. There is an achievable three points up for grabs for both sides in the second half, in what is a very open game. Leicester created 0.86 xG in the first half, with Palace creating 0.44 xG. Opta’s live probability scale shows a 22.2% chance of a Leicester win, a 35.9% chance for a draw, and a 42.0% chance of a Palace win.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:19

HALF-TIME: LEICESTER CITY 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:17

CLOSE! Hughes blasts a shot just over the bar after it fell to him outside the box. Mitchell had a strike moments before, and a leg from a Leicester body diverted the ball into the path of the Palace man, who couldn’t keep his shot down.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:16

There will be three added minutes!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:13

Palace had an opportunity from a wide free-kick, but Eze’s cross was so poor again, and Leicester cleared with their first line of defence.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:10

We’re into the closing stages of this game, and the score is still 0-0, despite a very open and attacking game. Can either side pull ahead before the break?

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:09

Munoz goes over under a challenge from Mavididi, and it looked like an obvious foul and free-kick, but the referee waves away the claims, to the disgust of the away side.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:07

Justin strikes the free-kick well, but his Ronaldo-esque technique does him no favours as the ball skews in the air and goes wide of the target.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:05

Leicester have a free-kick in a very dangerous position, after a foul by Hughes on Buonanotte…

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:05

Leicester and Vardy have another chance to score. Mavididi does well against Hughes to get round him, and he lifts the ball into the box. Vardy was there to meet it, but his shot goes over the bar!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:02

It’s surprising that the scoreline still reads 0-0! Both sides have had opportunities to go ahead, and those chances should’ve been taken!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

20:00

MISSED! Mateta misses a huge chance to put the away side ahead! He is gifted the ball due to a bad backpass from the Leicester defence, and he shoots wildly over the bar! He could’ve had three goals against Leicester for the season!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:59

Palace are being completely run over at the moment, they can’t seem to build an attack due to their poor passing, and they aren’t tracking the Leicester runs as well as they need to be. Leicester attempted seven shots in the opening 20 minutes of this match, their most in a Premier League match this season and it’s no surprise.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:57

The home fans are letting out groans when their side passes the ball backwards. It’s not pretty, but the way they are set up to play in this game is working so far.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:54

Just under 25 minutes have been played, and Leicester are looking the brighter of the two teams! Palace’s passing has been sloppy and laboured, on the whole, and they need to wake up soon!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:51

Substitution Jefferson Andrés Lerma Solís Cheick Oumar Doucouré

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:50

There is a small break in play, as Lerma receives medical treatment. He was stood up and looked to be okay, but he has just dropped to the deck and he will more than likely be taken off.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:48

WHAT A SAVE! Vardy breaks through the Palace line and bares down on goal, as he does so well. He shoots with a lot of power, but the effort is saved by Henderson! What an opportunity that was for him. The score remains 0-0.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:46

You get the feeling that this game will be full of direct attacks, with either a ball through the lines or a pass over the top to each of the strikers. Mateta and Vardy love to run onto through balls.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:46

Brilliant play from Eze as he controlled a Mitchell cross with his chest, and flicked the dropping ball over his head to fashion a shooting chance. The shot was poor, but that is a brighter bit of play from the Eagles.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:43

Leicester have calmed the tempo right down, and now they are taking their time over every period of possession. They are waiting for an opportunity to draw Palace in, and then attack them directly.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:40

For the first time in a Premier League match, Vardy has attempted two shots in the opening two minutes of play. For a player of his style, that is very surprising.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:38

Palace have responded well to that early flurry of Leicester attacks. Mateta was played through and shot towards goal before being told he was offside in the process. The ball i snow being knocked around in midfield by both sides.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:36

Tyrick Mitchell makes his 153rd Premier League appearance for Crystal Palace this evening, moving him into 10th spot on the club’s all-time list of competition appearances made alongside Jason Puncheon.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:34

Vardy now has another effort, this one goes wide of the post after he struck a bouncing ball from a further distance than his last shot. It evaded Henderson’s goal on the left side of the post.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:33

CHANCE! Leicester make a quick start and Vardy fails to convert! Buonanotte nicked the ball from a short Palace pass and looked for his striker, who didn’t make a good connection inside the box, and the chance escaped them.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:31

KICK-OFF! Andy Madley blows his whistle for the first time here, and the game is underway!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:30

The teams are out on the pitch, and we’re nearly ready for kick-off here in Leicester!

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:25

Former Palace man, Jordan Ayew, is named on the bench for Leicester for this game and it is a role reversal for Schlupp. He won the Premier League with Leicester, but he starts on the bench for the away side here. As mentioned in the earlier posts, Chalobah has been recalled by Chelsea, so Richards holds his spot in the back three for this game, and for the foreseeable future. Van Nistelrooy has made a few changes to his side that lost to Aston Villa, with Ayew, Coady and Thomas all dropping to the bench. Buonanotte, Faes and Kristiansen replace them, respectively. Vardy captains the home team, and Guehi captains the away side.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:15

As for Oliver Glasner’s side, they have steadied the ship in this Premier League campaign and now sit 15th. The worry of relegation has eased, meaning that the football being played is getting closer to what we saw at the back end of last season. They have had numerous injury problems, and just today they have had Trevoh Chalobah recalled by Chelsea, leaving them with one less player available for selection. A win against Leicester here would not only relieve relegation fears further but it would also put them in good stead for the remainder of the season.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:10

Since the last meeting between these two, Leicester have changed their manager. Ruud van Nistelrooy is now in the Foxes’ dugout, and things had begun to look slightly more positive for them since his appointment. A win against West Ham and a draw against Brighton had spirits high, but they are now on a run of five straight losses in the Premier League and will look to turn that around here. They will be aware of Palace’s threat, but being at home and with confidence from their FA Cup demolition of QPR, anything can happen.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

19:10

The last time these sides faced each other in the Premier League, the game ended 2-2 back in September 2024! Jean-Phillipe Mateta completed a brace from the spot in the 92nd minute to rescue a point for the Eagles, after Jamie Vardy and Stephy Mavididi scored for the away side. The overall head-to-head record between the two sides is evenly split, with seven wins each, and six draws in the last 20 meetings. This game is set up to be a very competitive encounter, with nothing to separate the two sides except from league position.
