Leicester City Women complete desperately-needed transfer just three weeks after contract signed
Leicester City Women have the goalscorer they needed with Icelandic hotshot Hlin Eiriksdottir signing for the club on Women’s Super League deadline day.
It took City until this past weekend, the 12th game of the season, to score twice in the same WSL match as they beat Liverpool 2-1. But goals should be far easier to come by now.
With summer signing Noemie Mouchon and last season’s top scorers Jutta Rantala and Lena Petermann all sidelined with injury, and Shannon O’Brien only just fit again, Amandine Miquel’s side have been extremely light on firepower. They have scored only five goals all league season.

But Eiriksdottir arrives with an excellent reputation for finding the net. The 24-year-old scored 15 goals in 25 games for Swedish side Kristianstad last year, finishing second in the division’s scoring charts, having netted 11 goals and provided six assists the year before.
Intriguingly, Eirksdottir eschewed interest from across Europe to sign a new contract with Kristianstad just three weeks ago, ready for the 2025 season in Sweden, which begins in March and is played through the summer. At the time, she said: “I still have dreams of playing abroad, but right now my focus is on Kristianstad.”
Now, she’s joining City for an undisclosed fee. Eiriksdottir has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and links up with Miquel’s side at Belvoir Drive ahead of the clash with Everton this Sunday.
Eiriksdottir told the club: “I would say I’m a pretty typical Icelandic or Scandinavian player, in that I’m strong and have a strong winning mentality. I have a will to score goals and I’m a very attack-minded person. In the dressing room, I will come in with my ambitions to win and I think I can spread some energy to the team.
“Of course, I hope to contribute with some goals. There are a lot of reasons why I wanted to come here, but the main one was the words from the manager and what she wanted from me.
“It was important for me to feel wanted and I felt that in the first few talks. It’s a massive club with the facilities and everything around the team so I have everything I need to get better here.
“She signed me as a forward, to help with the offensive play, but she made it clear I do have a role in the defence as well, so it’ll be about adapting to the team and hopefully adding a bit extra.”
