Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman private message to Everton squad revealed ahead of Peterborough
Michael Keane has revealed the simple message Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines delivered to Everton’s players before their win over Peterborough United. Baines and Coleman were tasked with overseeing the game after Sean Dyche, along with Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer, was relieved of his duties just over three hours before kick-off.
The Goodison Park icons opted to stick with the same side and formation selected by Dyche; however, they did deliver a short and simple message to Keane and his team-mates ahead of the 2-0 victory. “They didn’t pick the team or the formation - we worked on that this morning,” the centre-back revealed. “They didn’t want to change that as they didn’t have a lot of time.
“There were just a few tactical tweaks and stuff like that. The message was just to go out and play football.

“We’ve been doing that since we were little kids, so it’s just another game. Go out, try and enjoy yourselves, and win.”
A first-half strike from Beto set the Blues on their way before they sealed their place in today’s fourth-round draw thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s stoppage-time penalty.
“Seamus has always been an amazing motivator and makes sure everyone gives their best for this football club,” Keane said, reflecting on his side’s performance.
“It was no different tonight, and you probably saw that everyone on the pitch was working really hard.
“There were quite a few lads who hadn’t played for a while, so everyone had to dig deep near the end. I think we can be pleased with the night’s work.”
Everton have moved quickly to replace Dyche, with the appointment of David Moyes being confirmed on Saturday morning. The Scot has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues and will take charge of his first game against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
And Keane, who has a long-standing relationship with Dyche but lost his place once Jarrad Branthwaite was fit in September, is hoping he will get a second chance.
"That’s the thing with a new manager coming in: you never know," Keane said ahead of Moyes' appointment being confirmed. "Nothing will change for me. I work hard every day in training, and I’ll keep doing the same things.”
