Leon Bailey will now likely remain at Aston Villa despite interest from several clubs on deadline day, according to reports.

The winger was reportedly monitored by Manchester United in recent weeks, before Tottenham Hotspur made contact with Villa to get information on the situation.

Spurs’ sporting director Johan Lange signed Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 as the Jamaica international joined as one of three players signed to replace the void left by Jack Grealish.

Bailey hit top form last season and played a key role in helping Unai Emery’s side reach the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, before they qualified for the Champions League via a fourth-placed finish.

This season, he has only scored one goal in 29 appearances in all competitions. The 27-year-old struggled with injuries at the start of the campaign, but has still started 21 games.

He will face more competition for game time following the imminent arrival of Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard is due to be confirmed as a new Villa player shortly, while PSG are also thought to be open to extending the loan into next season.

Marcus Rashford sealed his loan move to Villa on Sunday night, while they also have a £40m option to buy him from Manchester United in the summer.
