Letter: Commercial car park will not solve Sandylands issues

I SUSPECT that Cllr Solloway is incorrect to believe that the parking issues on Carleton New Road would be addressed by a new car park on the old LMS pitch (rethink urged over parking at Skipton's 'sports village', Craven Herald, January 9 and online).

The cars parked on that road are left by local workers and users of the railway station who do not wish to pay for their parking. The cars are there all day and some overnight in the case of rail users travelling to London for example. The road is also usually much clearer on a weekend which is when many activities take place on the Sandlylands site.

I cannot see how building a commercial car park which will charge for its space would address any of the problems. Current parking on the Sandylands site is free and I would imagine that not many people who wish to participate at the centre would be happy to have pay for parking if all the free spaces had gone.

I am pleased however that he has requested the extension of the yellow lines. There has been one incident recently which damaged at least three parked vehicles and many of the residents of the Carleton Park estate fear that someone will be injured at some stage.
