Levi Colwill has shown his true colours following Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Ham. The 21-year-old defender played a key role in the victory at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, helping the Blues climb back into the top four of the Premier League.

However, unfortunately for Colwill, his resolute performance was stained by a 'terrible mistake' that led to the Hammers' opener. Shortly before half-time, Jarrod Bowen latched onto a stray back-pass from the Cobham graduate before putting Graham Potter's side ahead.

Pedro Neto, who had replaced Jadon Sancho, pulled one back for Chelsea in the second-half. Then, with quarter of an hour left to play, Cole Palmer stepped up to the plate, firing a cross into the box which deflected off Aaron Wan-Bissaka and past Alphonse Areola.

After the game, Colwill marked the victory with a celebratory post on Instagram. Showing his true colours as a leader by taking accountability, the Blues defender wrote: "Terrible mistake from me today but i'll bounce back stronger and thats why u need top players to bail you out. Massive points tonight. Let’s go blues."

The post quickly eclipsed 70,000 likes from supporters, friends, family and teammates. Filip Jorgensen and Marc Cucurella also offered Colwill their support in the comment section, with the Spaniard writing: "We love you [blue heart emoji]."

Speaking to Sky Sports, Maresca heaped praise on his side for overcoming a 'tough' challenge. The Chelsea boss said: "Huge. The reason why is, first of all, because it was a tough game, especially mentally because it’s never easy when teams come here and sit back.

"You need to be patient. There is no space. There is nowhere we can attack so you have to move the ball and wait for the right moment. It’s not easy. I think we shot more than 10 times in the first half and unfortunately, we missed the target. Then they score so it’s not easy. Second half we came back and I think we completely deserved to win the game."

Then, speaking to reporters in his post-match press conference, Maresca was quizzed on his side's number of errors that lead to goals. The Italian said: "I'm not concerned, it's the way we play. Sometimes defensive mistakes happen, keeper mistake, number nine misses the goal, that's football.

"It happens. The important thing is to continue," added Maresca. "It was a good weekend for us in terms of results and we knew today was even better."
