Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson is back in training after an injury picked up on Champions League duty for the Italian side.

The Scotland star, who has been a standout performer in Serie A following his move from Aberdeen in 2022, suffered heartbreak after being ruled out of Euro 2024 following a serious knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for seven months. However after an emotional return to action in November he's been looking back to his best, before fans were left concerned after a hamstring injury sustained early in Bologna's Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon last month.

However he's already back in training, with a statement from the Italian side saying: "Vincenzo Italiano’s Rossoblù have been focusing on fitness training as well as technical and tactical exercises. Lewis Ferguson and Riccardo Orsolini have been doing specialized training. Tests carried out on Jens Odgaard revealed a second-degree injury to his left hamstring. He will likely be out for four weeks."

Ferguson, who is the nephew of Barry Ferguson and has earned 12 caps under Steve Clarke's management, previously credited his Scottish mentaltiy with getting him through the brutal spell with injury. In an interview with Bologna's in-house media, he said: "I just want to return as strong as possible. I want to have the same feelings that I had last season when I played. "This is just the nature of a Scottish player - we have the desire and the will to win. This is just the Scottish mentality. You work hard and fight every day to become better."

Speaking to Sky Italia after helping his side to a famous first Champions League victory earlier this year, Ferguson admitted the injury had left him fearful. He said: "At the beginning, I was a bit scared, but now I'm fine. The first few months were difficult, every day I was feeling in a different way. I am still working to improve my knee, but now I am fine and on the pitch I feel normal. Let's see where we can get to but we are doing well."
