Scots Serie A revellers Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour could owe their national team mate a few favours come the end of the season.

Lewis Ferguson did their Napoli side a huge favour by helping holding Inter Milan to a pulsating 2-2 draw at the San Siro. Simone Inzaghi's men fell behind before Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez put the champions ahead just before the break. But Bologna always looked a threat and Emil Holm struck a fine hit to equalise just after the hour mark.

Minutes later Ferguson came off the bench to help keep possession and shore up the midfield as the black and blue shirts tore forward for a winner. But the Nerazzurri had no luck and the two dropped Serie A points leave them three points behind Napoli with a game in hand. The result is even more crucial for McTominay, Gilmour and co as they face third place Atalanta at the weekend.

Inzaghi lamented the dropped points which stopped a six-game winning run but lauded his opponent's resilience. Speaking to DAZN he said: “We are not happy at all, but I have nothing to reproach the players for, they played against a valuable opponent. Bologna played a great game, they are a well-organized team. The players gave an excellent performance, but we will need to evaluate everything. We had many chances, including those of Thuram and Taremi.

“We could have done better on their goals, especially at 2-2, where we conceded a very simple goal. Aside from the first 15-20 minutes, where the approach wasn’t the usual one, I saw a great team. We created the conditions to score the third goal.”
