Inter Milan are reportedly set to step up their attempts to try and land Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson next summer.

The Scotland star has recently returned to full fitness after recovering from the serious knee injury that kept him out of Euro 2024, and was on the scoresheet last weekend in a 2-2 draw with Roma, where he also scooped up the man of the match award. Vicenzo Italiano's men had a slow start to the season but just one league defeat in their last nine games has boosted hopes that they can qualify for Europe for a second year on the trot.

Ferguson, 25, has caught the eye of several of Serie A's big hitters in recent seasons, and Interlive.net claim that Inter representatives met with Bologna during the 2-2 draw at San Siro on Wednesday night to discuss the possibility of the Nerazzurri bringing the former Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies midfielder to Milan next season,

They add that Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is a huge fan of Ferguson and is desperate to add him to his midfield ranks next summer. Bologna only handed their captain a new deal back in November that will see him remain with the club until 2028 but San Siro bosses are confident that they can convince him to make the move by significantly increasing his reported salary of around €1million (£844,190) a year.

The report also adds that the Scudetto holders may have to fork out as much as €30million (£25.3million) to sign the player, who is Scotland's all-time leading goalscorer in Italy's top-flight with 14 strikes in 68 matches. Aberdeen will be watching on with interest having inserted a 15 per cent sell on clause into the deal that took Ferguson from Pittodrie to the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in the summer of 2022.
