Lewis Hall gives candid view on what must change at Newcastle United

Lewis Hall has offered a taste of some of the behind the scenes discussions at Newcastle United following the defeat at Brentford.

The Magpies' consistency was questioned by Eddie Howe with the players accepting that things must change if the club are to mount a successful tilt at Europe and potentially some silverware this season. Hall is convinced that Newcastle are good enough to win something and on the back of his sparkling display against the Foxes he can't wait to take on Brentford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Hall told Chronicle Live: "I think it epitomises our season really. We've had a lot of games where we have been good in one half or good for 30 minutes then a bit off it for 30 minutes, I think we have looked at that.

"We need the consistency and know we need to be at it for the full 90 minutes. As much as we possibly can, I think we done that against Leicester and now we must continue to do that."

Hall, a boyhood Newcastle fan, sees supporters waiting patiently for autographs and pictures every day at the training ground in Benton. And after a successful first year on Tyneside following his loan from Chelsea, it is now impossible for him to walk the streets of Newcastle without being recognised.

When asked if the passion of the fanbase is spurring Newcastle on ahead of Brentford this week, Hall said: "For sure and I don't think it needs the cup game to necessarily talk about how much our fans love the club. For us as players we look to work hard. And I think we have the talent to win a trophy so we look to do that and make the whole city happy."

Hall has also offered some insight into the aftermath of Brentford on a day when Newcastle players walked off the pitch without uttering a word to each other after the 4-2 defeat. When asked if the painful loss at the Gtech Stadium can be a motivation for the cup tie, the England international reflected: "Whenever you lose a game you are going to be disappointed. But I think the manner in which we lost the game was a bit frustrating.

"That was more down to ourselves rather than them. I think this is now just another game really and you can use that (the 4-2) as a bit of motivation but I think we are motivated enough. It is a quarter-final and we need to win."
