Lewis Martin admission made as Hull FC tie down ‘weapon’ winger to long-term deal
Lewis Martin believes something ‘special’ is brewing at Hull FC, with an exciting future pinned as a key reason for the 20-year-old signing a new long-term deal at the club.
The rising winger, whose stock continues to grow throughout Super League, has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension at the club, keeping him in East Yorkshire until the end of the 2028 season.
Looking to kick on and take a ‘big step forward’ with the team, Martin, a former footballer at Hull City, has been one of Hull’s brightest players since a try-scoring debut at St Helens back in 2023, missing just three games of the 2024 season.

He has carried that form into 2025, scoring six tries in Hull’s first five competitive games of the year, including three in the last three Super League games against Wigan, Huddersfield, and Leigh. To date, he has scored 16 tries in 31 first-team appearances.
But it’s his work in the backfield, high energy, bravery, and attitude that has also caught the eye, with head coach John Cartwright singling out the player for his performances. He has made 82 carries already in Super League, totalling 547 metres—two of the highest totals in the competition.
Together with wing partner and good friend Harvey Barron, who also signed a new deal last month, they are making their mark with the Airlie Birds and now have their futures cemented at the club.
Speaking on his new deal, Martin said: "I'm absolutely buzzing to stay at this great club for another three years. I've learnt so much over the last 18 months, and that is down to how the club has nurtured me and helped me grow as a player.
"There's something special going on at the club at the moment. It won't turn around for us overnight, but within the next three years, there's a real belief that we can take a big step forward, and that's something I'm really looking forward to being a part of."
As well as Martin and Barron, Denive Balmforth and Will Hutchinson have signed new deals this season with Hull putting a huge emphasis on the growth of their homegrown players.
Hull FC CEO Richie Myler, meanwhile, believes Martin is a real ‘weapon’ of a player and expects him to keep growing over the next three years.
"We're really proud to have a player like Lewis Martin in our arsenal," Myler added. "He's a real weapon of a player, and it's fantastic that he's decided to stay another three years with us.
"When I first arrived at the club, you could see he was still a bit raw. But compare that to now, and he's streets ahead of where he was.
"If he can continue to progress, there's no real limit to how far Lewis can go in the game. We're just very happy that he'll remain a Hull FC player for another three years, and like with the rest of our youngsters, I can't wait to see how he continues to develop."
