Hibs are confident of agreeing an extension to Lewis Miller’s deal at Easter Road.

The 24-year-old right back is in his third season in Leith after signing from Central Coast Mariners and has become a key man for David Gray, filling in at right centre half in recent weeks with Marvin Ekpiteta out injured. Australia international Miller is in the final six months of his contract. But that deal includes an option to extend for a further year in the summer - which requires both parties to agree - and talks over that are progressing with Hibs chiefs confident a deal will be struck.

The Sydney-born Socceroo has made 71 appearances since moving to Edinburgh - 25 of those this season. Gray - himself a former right back at Easter Road - has high hopes for Miller who has six Socceroo caps to his name. Speaking earlier in the season he said: “He's a player who can be anything he wants to be. Having also played right-back, from a coaching point, there's a lot of things I try and help Lewis with. He is such a big, strong, powerful boy, and he can really affect games.

"When you look at Lewis from an athletic point of view, he regularly shows those attributes. He also has moments where he knows he needs to improve his game. But he's a confident big guy, so he has got a lot of faith in his ability, and he just seems to take everything in his stride. That's the type of strong personality he's got, and it's good that he's able to bounce back from these things pretty quickly."

Meanwhile Rocky Bushiri says he is hopeful of extending his stay at Hibs with his contract up in the summer. The central defender has become a big player since returning to the first team after a spell on the periphery earlier in the season and has scored late equalisers against Aberdeen and Rangers in the last two months.

Bushiri said: “Regarding my future, my contract is out at the end of the season but I feel good here. The last few months have been the busiest of the season and Hibernian wanted to put that behind us before discussing a new contract. I expect we will talk about it soon.

“I had to be patient. It was difficult to be put on the bench like that after being considered a key player, but I worked hard, because everything goes very quickly in football...and this is the proof.”
