Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has responded to reports linking him away with the club, with Chelsea among the Premier League sides rumoured to hold an interest in the 21-year-old.

Delap was on the scoresheet on Monday night as Ipswich recorded a famous 2-0 win against the London club. The striker won and scored the penalty in the first half to make it 1-0, while former Blue Omari Hutchinson then added a second for the hosts in the second half.

Chelsea currently boast striker options including Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, but that hasn't stopped the club from being linked with alternative options. Delap joined Ipswich from Manchester City 's academy over the summer had has been tipped to become a starting striker for England in the not too distant future.

Despite speculations surrounding his future, Delap insists he currently does not feel his future lies away from Portman Road. Following Monday night's win over Chelsea, he told Suffolk News : "I don’t really look at things like that. So, yes, I’m just focused on Ipswich.

"We [along with Hutchinson] are lucky to be playing in the Premier League. I think we’ve got a great opportunity here at Ipswich and we’re just trying to show our ability week in, week out, that’s a big plus for me.”

Delap has scored seven goals and registered two assists in the Premier League this season, which is a decent return for a player representing a team in the midst of a relegation fight. Though it seems unlikely a move in January would be possible, if Chelsea's interest is genuine, it would be no surprise to see them test the waters in the summer. Especially if Ipswich are to suffer relegation to the Championship.

For now, Enzo Maresca 's full focus will be on getting Chelsea back to winning ways after they dropped points in their last three league games. They were held to a draw against Everton before Christmas and that was followed by back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Ipswich.
