Linda Pizzuti has celebrated Liverpool moving seven points clear after two stoppage-time goals from Darwin Nunez extended their lead at the Premier League summit. The Reds registered a nine-year high of shots on goal in a frustrating encounter against Brentford, but the Uruguayan netted twice to end a run of three matches without a win.

Liverpool extended their cushion to Arsenal in the title race with the Gunners hosting Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening (5:30pm kick-off).

Arne Slot's side have a game in hand over their rivals but the resilience in West London ensured that Arsenal will not be able to reduce the lead at the top of the table to two points.

Replying to the official Liverpool Instagram accounts post of the full-time result, Pizzuti, wife of Liverpool owner John W. Henry, wrote: "7 points clear!"

It was followed by a post to her account, captioned: "A last minute brace for Nunez and we are 7 points clear at the top.

"30 goal differential this season so far!"

The Reds return to Champions League action at home to Lille on Tuesday night, with qualification for the knockout stages already secured - avoiding the playoff round as a result. They return to Anfield against relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Saturday, January 25 (3pm kick-off) with the hope to move a possible 10 points clear - should Arsenal fail to beat Villa.

The Gunners travel to Molineux in their next Premier League outing after hosting Dinamo Zagreb in Europe.

Speaking ahead of the showdown with the Bees, Slot admitted that Liverpool hadn't been able to get the best out of Nunez so far during his tenure. He said: “Darwin is a striker we have to use in a certain way and we were not able yet to bring the best out of him this season.

"Against Accrington Stanley again you saw he has a lot of pace but, unfortunately for him, most teams sit back a lot against us. If you look back at the goals he scored for us, I remember the one against [Aston] Villa when he went around the goalkeeper on a fast break, that is his main strength – he has other qualities as well – but we are still working on getting him in the best possible positions against a low block. That involves the right timings, the right crosses, the right position to start from and making the right run."
