Football legend Lionel Messi has reportedly decided what his next move will be after his Inter Miami contract ends.

The Barcelona icon signed with David Beckham's franchise in 2023 and has brought the beautiful game in the US to new levels. He has just one season left on his contract in Fort Lauderdale with hopes he will stay in the MLS for 2026. Miami want to tie the World Cup winner down to a new deal with links to a return to Europe or an emotional stint at boyhood club Newell's Old Boys both a possible next step.

But according to Yanina Latorre, a Argentine media personality and friend of the Messi family, they have decided to go back to a place they call "home" after visiting the 37-year-old’s Florida home. She said via La Nacion: "He told me that when he finishes here (in Miami), where he is happy, he will return to Barcelona.”

When Latorre asked Messi if he would consider staying in Miami, he is said to have told her: "No, my place is there."

Messi joined the Blaugrana when he was 13 and went on to make 778 appearances for the La Liga giants scoring a staggering 672 goals. One reason his return may be postponed is that Inter Miami will move from the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale to the new Miami Freedom Park in 2026 and the hierarchy want the Argentine to be a big part of it.
