Adidas and Liverpool are reportedly set to pair up once again next season as the German outfit swept in with a deal after four years of Nike rule. Adidas has created some of the most iconic kits in the club's history from the legendary Crowns Paints kits in the 80s to the some of the infamous Carlsberg kits of the 90s and 00s.

Now the manufacturer is looking to produce another kit for the ages, channelling its former glory days in a late-80s / early-90s-inspired kit that wouldn't have looked out of place 35 years ago. According to Footy Headlines, LFC's third kit will not only bring back the classic 'sea green' of the 90s but also a retro-inspired badge.

The badge still has the Liver Bird at the front and centre but brings back the simple shield around - matching the 1987 kit worn by John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish and Peter Beardsley.

The leaked third strip has subtle toned stripes, the classic three stripes on each arm as well as a white trim. The kit will also feature the Adidas originals trefoil logo, rather than the classic sporting three stripes logo - something reserved for just a few of the biggest teams in Europe. Currently, the originals logo only features on Arsenal's third and a Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Man United alternate strip.

Unlike the 90s classic Carlsberg sponsor, the kit is set to remain with the Standard Chartered logo that has become a mainstay since taking over the front of the Reds' shirts in 2010 with that deal now extended to 2027.

The Liverpool-Adidas relationship may also continue to excite fans for the next few years, with the two reported to be tied in for the next five seasons until the 2029/30 season in a deal reported to be worth more than £60 million a year.

In the X comments of the supposed leak fans are already going crazy for the retro design. One commenter happy to be back with the German brand said: "Adidas always brings the perfect mix of comfort and style. Can’t go wrong with their gear!"

Another Liverpool fan keen to get their hands on it said: "That's the best kit I've seen in years for any team, my word it's absolutely beautiful."

However, any fans wanting to buy the replica kit may have to be patient for an official announcement, with most home shirts revealed just after the season ends while third kits are announced even later and often are revealed once the new campaign is already underway.
