Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the name on everyone's lips when it comes to Liverpool over the last 24 hours. Reports emerged on Thursday claiming that the Reds had an interest in signing the Napoli forward before the January transfer window closed.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool are admirers of Kvaratskhelia but are yet to make contact with Napoli over a move for the Georgia international. Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in the race for Kvaratskhelia's signature, with some reports suggesting the French club may be the front runners.

It's too early to say if Liverpool will actually try and sign Kvaratskhelia at all, never mind this month. The Reds already have six forward options in their squad, so the likelihood of adding a seventh before the February 3 deadline is not high, but that does not mean the interest does not exist.

If Liverpool want a player, the majority of the time they usually get their wish. Only recent examples of Moises Caicedo and Martin Zubimendi go against that trend, but if the Reds want to sign Kvaratskhelia they will have a very good chance of getting a deal done.

PSG's interest and Napoli's potential asking price, reported to be around £70million, could be the only stumbling blocks. But Liverpool have something - or rather someone - on their side that could tip the balance in their favour.

Liverpool will already be welcoming Giorgi Mamardashvili to Anfield at the end of the season, once his loan spell at Valencia has come to an end. The Reds agreed a deal to sign the goalkeeper last summer and will compete with Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher for the No.1 spot in Arne Slot's squad.

Mamardashvili already shares a dressing room alongside Kvaratskhelia, with the pair also international teammates for Georgia. Both players starred for their country at last summer's European Championships, where they helped Georgia reach the round of 16 stage before losing to eventual winners Spain.

"Kvaratskhelia is better than all of Spain," is what Mamardashvili told reporters last summer ahead of the Euro 2024 tie. The incoming Liverpool signing is a big fan of Kvaratskhelia, to say the least.

Could that enthusiasm help Liverpool gain an advantage in the race to sign the Napoli star? It certainly won't harm the Reds' cause, but only Mamardashvili himself will know if he will try and convince Kvaratskhelia to swap the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for Anfield.
