Former Premier League striker Glenn Murray feels Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season because the squad has more belief in itself than Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s side moved six points clear of the Gunners with a 2-0 win over Brentford on Saturday and have a game in hand on the chasing pack. Arsenal’s slip-up at home to Aston Villa means Liverpool are heavy favourites to claim top spot, while Nottingham Forest is still in the mix and are level on points with Mikel Arteta’s side.

But on what felt like a very significant weekend in the title race, ex-Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace forward Murray thinks there is an obvious difference between Liverpool and the rest of the division’s top sides.

“When I compare Liverpool to their main rivals at the moment, in Arsenal, Liverpool are relentless and there is a real belief in that squad that they are going to win,” said the 41-year-old on the Football Daily podcast.

However, Murray did have a warning for Liverpool that after winning 15 of its 21 matches this season, a drop off will come at some point. “I think Liverpool will go on to win the Premier League title but I do think there is still a blip to come for them this season,” he opined.

Liverpool’s potential blip is unlikely to come in the next few weeks, with matches against three of the current bottom five over the next four Premier League games. A healthy return from those fixtures and the race for first place could seem all but over, especially with Arsenal facing Manchester City and Nottingham Forest next month.

Meanwhile, Liverpool secured a place in the Champions League knockout rounds on Tuesday courtesy of a 2-1 win over Lille. It means the Reds will bypass the play-offs and an additional two fixtures in the calendar.

Elsewhere, Liverpool is still competing in two domestic competitions, with an FA Cup fourth round trip to Plymouth Argyle next month, just a few days after the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool trails 1-0 from the first leg two weeks ago.
