Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals why he is never scared

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he is not scared of anyone.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach, who lifted the Bundesliga title in consecutive seasons between 2010 and 2012, is entering the fourth season at Anfield.

Being over 6ft3, the former centre-back stated he has rarely, if ever, not felt in command of a situation.

And the 51-year-old stressed the importance of not being intimidated by fellow managers or his players.

But, he added, there were two players which did give him a potential cause for concern – Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.

He replied to a France Football question about ever being scared: “No, never.

“Fear is never a good thing, even when you have to tell a player that you are not renewing his contract.

“I think I have a natural authority. I have a voice that carries and I am 6ft 3.6ins tall.

“Apart from Virgil van Dijk and perhaps Joel Matip, who are nice men, no-one is bigger than me.”

Klopp will be hoping he can use every inch of that height to help his men dominate on the pitch this season as the Reds look to mount a serious title challenge.

One of the main obstacles to that particular course will be Pep Guardiola and Manchester City – who stormed to Premier League victory last season – but Liverpool will be boosted by the news that one of their star men will miss a significant portion of the season.

Midfield lynchpin Kevin de Bruyne, who starred for City last season, could miss up to three months after sustaining a knee injury in training on Wednesday.

The playmaker was seen on crutches ahead of Amazon Prime’s launch of the new Manchester City documentary.

He will be further assessed later this week, although City fear the 27-year-old could be out for some time.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday.

“The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin’s condition in due course.”
