Liverpool confirm Federico Chiesa deal in cut-price transfer swoop
Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Italy international Federico Chiesa.
The Juventus forward emerged as a surprise target for the Reds earlier this week and has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Anfield to bolster an already fearsome frontline on Merseyside. He will wear the No14 shirt.
Juve had been clear in their plans to sell the former Fiorentina forward after failing to agree a new contract and Arne Slot’s side have swooped.
Chiesa is believed to have cost Liverpool around £10m up front, with a further £2.5m to come by way of various add-ons.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I'm so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, 'Do you want to join Liverpool?' – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.
“So, I'm so happy and I can't wait to get started.”
The 26-year-old formed part of the Italy squad who won the delayed Euro 2020 tournament against England at Wembley and becomes the first new signing to arrive at Liverpool this summer.
Georgia international goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili became the first new signing of the post-Jurgen Klopp era but will remain at Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.
