Liverpool have agreed the sale of goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga to Fluminense, subject to international clearance. Pitaluga moved to Anfield from the Brazilian club as a 17-year-old back in October 2020 for a fee in the region of £2million.

The keeper, though, failed to make a first-team appearance for the Reds having been an unused substitute on seven occasions, the most recent being in December 2023.

It is understood the move is a free transfer although Liverpool will retain 40% of the player's rights, which would effectively represent a sell-on clause.

Fluminense moved to re-sign Pitaluga after the goalkeeper experienced a disappointing loan spell at Scottish Championship side Livingston. Pitaluga agreed a season-long stay in Scotland last summer but made only two appearances in the Scottish Challenge Cup, the most recent of which came in November.

Pitaluga, who played in the EFL Trophy for Liverpool as well as at under-18 and U21s level, had a loan spell in non-league with Macclesfield in 2022/23 and then spent part of the following season at Irish side St Patrick's Athletic, although he made only seven outings.
