Liverpool has confirmed Calvin Ramsay has gone back out on loan, joining Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in a deal until the end of the season.

The right-back returned to Merseyside earlier this month, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at League One side Wigan Athletic. Ramsay made just 12 appearances for the Lancashire club, including only five starts, before heading back to Liverpool.

The former Aberdeen star now returns to Scotland, where he will link back up with former manager Derek McInnes as he joins Kilmarnock for the remainder of the season.

“When the opportunity came up to sign Calvin we jumped at it,” McInnes told the Scottish club’s website. “I’d like to thank Liverpool for their cooperation once again on this deal.”

Ramsay is thought to have had a number of options for loans this month, with other Scottish Premiership sides and League One and Two clubs in England reportedly holding an interest in him.

His move back north of the border is the latest in a line of loan moves for the 21-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Aberdeen back in 2022. He had spells at Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers before joining Wigan last summer.

Ramsay, who has one senior cap for Scotland, has made two senior appearances for Liverpool since joining the club, both coming during the 2022/23 season. His first campaign at the club was cut short by injury though, and he has struggled for regular game time ever since.

Liverpool.com says: Let’s hope this move works out for Ramsay. There was a lot of excitement about him when he joined Liverpool from Aberdeen, but that injury in his first season at Anfield has seriously slowed down his progress.

He did look to be the natural successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold when he first joined, but he has now been overtaken by Conor Bradley, and given his loan moves over the last couple of years haven’t been successful, it’s difficult to see what sort of future he has at Anfield now, but hopefully things start picking up for him soon, starting at Kilmarnock.
