Liverpool may soon have a decision to make regarding Federico Chiesa, with reports suggesting the Italian winger's representatives have been approached over a potential transfer.

Arne Slot adopted a cautious strategy during the summer transfer window, choosing to rely on the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp rather than making significant changes. Chiesa was the only signing to join the Reds last summer but has had a difficult start to life on Merseyside.

Due to a lack of pre-season with Juventus, the 27-year-old has been plagued with fitness issues and has made just four appearances for the Reds so far in all competitions.

Chiesa missed 14 games in between his Carabao Cup appearances against West Ham in September and Southampton earlier this month, with Slot admitting he needed more time to get up to speed with his new teammates.

According to reports from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Napoli director Giovanni Manna has reportedly reached out to Chiesa’s agent, to explore the Italian winger’s potential availability during the January transfer window.

The Serie A champions are said to be keen on securing the winger's services, and initial discussions have been held with his representative Fali Ramadani to gauge the feasibility of a move.

Liverpool are said to be open to allowing Chiesa to leave on loan to allow him to improve his match fitness and get more minutes under his belt, whilst Napoli manager Antonio Conte would also welcome the move.

According to Foot Mercato, Napoli are in pole position to sign Chiesa but Inter Milan and Fiorentina are also interested in the winger. For an Italian club like Napoli to facilitate a loan deal for Chiesa, Liverpool may need to step in and cover a portion of the Italian international’s salary.

“He definitely is [getting stronger],” Slot said of Chiesa last week. “You see him on the pitch now, it means he’s getting stronger and better. He had to adapt for quite a long time. I’ve said so many times, as expected if you miss team training sessions for so long. And then you go to a league where the intensity is so high as well, and to a team who plays with a lot of intensity. He is getting stronger, but he’s also facing a lot of competition in the right-wing position!”
